Why Digital Mediation Workshops Are Harder Than They Look

A successful digital mediation workshop isn't a YouTube tutorial. It must adapt to participant levels (highly variable), produce something tangible in limited time, and leave a lasting memory.

The 5 Design Steps

Step 1: Define the experience objective — not "what will I show them?" but "how do I want them to feel at the end?"

Step 2: Define the participants' deliverable — each participant leaves with something: a generated work, modified code, a photo of their interaction.

Step 3: Calibrate technical complexity — participants must produce their first visible result within the first 15 minutes.

Step 4: Design levels — Level 0 (touch/watch), Level 1 (modify a parameter), Level 2 (create something new). Prevents advanced participants from getting bored and beginners from giving up.

Step 5: Plan closure and sharing — last 5 minutes: each participant shows what they created. Simple but powerful ritual.
